Yellow Yam Soup with Pork Ribs

Let’s start to make Yellow Yam Soup with Pork Ribs with me. Yam is one of ancient Khmer vegetables, it is totally different to sweet potato which also calls yam in America. Yam is much larger than sweet potato, some yam weight over hundred pounds. Out side, yam has rough brownish skin which resembling to tree’s bark , inside is edible and comes with several colors; white, purple, yellow, and reddish. In Cambodia, the most popular colors yam is white and purple yam. In medicine, our people eats yam for treatments of skin rash, breathing problem such as asthma. Yam produces natural steroid, which our poor people need the energy for survive.


1 lb (450 gram) of pork riblets, cut chunks bite sizes
5 cups of water
2 lbs (900 gram) of yellow yam peeled and cut to small cubes
1 stalk celery, chopped finely
1 tablespoon of fish sauce
1/2 tablespoon of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
2 stalks green onion, chopped

Directions to make Yellow Yam Soup with Pork Ribs

  1. Put pork riblets and water in a soup pot and cook till meat tender.
  2. Add yellow yam, celery and cook till yam tender.
  3. Seasoning with fish sauce, sugar, salt and black pepper.
  4. Top with green onion.

Serve hot with rice
